Iaido Classes
(Japanese Sword practice) This consists of katas which instruct you how to draw, manipulate and re-sheath the sword with dignity.
Iaido is good for someone who wants to learn to concentrate and focus on coordinated movement of the body. It is not as fast or strenuous as Aikido can be, but will give you a moderate work out for the body and mind. It can be compared to isometrics for major portions of the body. The upper legs and buttocks muscles are strengthened and smooth, coordinated motion is stressed.
Dull “Dead” swords only for these classes. No Sharp “Live” blades. Learn in Safety. Base rate for Iaido = $20 per class
4 Iaido Classes per month = 1 per Week = $70 / Month
8 Iaido Classes per month = 2 per Week = $130 / Month
Unlimited Iaido Classes per month = 3 per Week = $180 / Month
Classes may be paid for on site or online via the Lesson Store page under Classes.
Batto
(Cutting with the Japanese Sword) Consists of the Toyama-Ryu Hon Iaido Batto curriculum which was part of the Japanese Army Infantry Officer training. I also apply this to many of the Iaido katas for an even greater curriculum.
This has the potential of being quite dangerous, so I require a strong proficiency in Iaido practice before allowing you to attempt this. (Probably a minimum of 10 months of consistent Iaido practice, however this can vary)
A 3 foot long razor blade is as dangerous to you as to anyone else.
Batto develops focus to the effort at hand, as well as coordination of mind and body.
Base rate for Batto = $35 per class.
This line of Toyama-ryu is more what was taught in the Toyama Military School by Lt Col Morinaga. It is not the Tokyo based line which has taken out much of the main Batto movements. They stand still and cut and they wear dress kimono for looks. The Morinaga line is more battlefield simple, but cuts while moving and cuts from the draw.
